Sometimes life can feel chaotic and unmanageable. And sometimes that’s just how it is for a season, especially with busy schedules or challenging conditions. It may mean we make adjustments to meeting our personal needs in order to ensure that others are taken care of.

Ideally, things calm down quickly, and we will find time to breathe, think clearly and enjoy all the things we love in life. 

But sometimes, that chaos and those adjustments can start to leave behind a residue on our sense of wellbeing. And sometimes, those challenging conditions begin to feel harder to navigate because some of our natural coping abilities have slowly been depleted and worn down.

Humanitarian wellbeing has come more and more into the spotlight as research highlights the many impacts on staff and organizations. There is evidence that policies and provisions for staff care and wellbeing are changing for the better, however, follow-up implementation is slightly slower to catch up.

It is crucial for Humanitarians to have access to appropriate and culturally relevant sources of external support in addition to having the space and encouragement, especially from management, for prioritizing their individual self-care.
